Active in + countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. ICLEI's European Secretariat is based in Freiburg (Germany), with specialised offices in Brussels and Berlin, and a staff of more than colleagues from all over Europe, covering a broad variety of professional disciplines. The internship in Freiburg offers Master’s students the opportunity to gain practical experience in an international sustainability organisation and to contribute to projects promoting sustainable urban development. The internship is designed as a structured learning experience and will last between four and six months . The position is based at ICLEI Europe’s office in Freiburg , Germany, and therefore requires on-site presence. The internship will focus on supporting communications activities within the Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions team, with particular emphasis on the UrbanByNature capacity-building and peer-exchange programme. We are seeking a motivated intern with a fresh perspective, strong writing skills and an interest in digital communication. A background in environmental studies, sustainability, biodiversity, Nature-based Solutions or a related field is preferred. Experience with Canva, website content management or other digital content-creation tools would be an advantage but is not essential. The specific learning objectives and tasks will be defined individually in a work plan at the beginning of the internship. Learning areas may include: Supporting the Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions team in their daily operational tasks related to UrbanByNature Contributing content to the UrbanByNature LinkedIn account and website Writing and editing project-related case studies and knowledge products Supporting city to city exchange activities Assisting with stakeholder engagement and partner communication Contributing to newsletters, webinars and communication activities Screening project proposals Supporting data collection, analysis and visualisation Applicants must fulfil the following requirements: Valid enrolment in a Master programme covering the internship period The internship must be a mandatory part of the curriculum External scholarship covering the full internship period (e.g. Erasmus+, DAAD or equivalent) Willingness to relocate to Freiburg, Germany for the internship period Visa/work permit if applicable Structured onboarding and supervision by the responsible Head of Team Individual work plan at the beginning of the internship Insight into international sustainability projects and policy processes Written reference letter (upon request) International working environment with colleagues from across Europe We are very much looking forward to your application – quick and easy via the "Apply Now" button.
